ATLANTA, Ga. – With his victory at the PGA Championship for his first career major championship and first of the 2024 season, Xander Schauffele earned 750 FedExCup points to move to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings. Schauffele’s eighth career victory on the PGA TOUR puts him in position to qualify for his eighth consecutive FedExCup Playoffs finale at the TOUR Championship, which returns to historic East Lake Golf Club, Aug. 28 – Sept. 1.
The TOUR Championship is golf’s most exclusive gathering, with the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings earning their trip to East Lake with a chance to add their name to an elite list of FedExCup Champions and earn the $18 million bonus awarded to the season champion.
Schauffele, who returned to the winner’s circle on the PGA TOUR for the first time since winning in back-to-back starts in 2022 (Travelers Championship, Genesis Scottish Open), entered the PGA Championship with eight top-10 finishes in 12 starts. The 30-year-old set the new PGA Championship 72-hole scoring record with a 21-under 263 (previous: 264/Brooks Koepka/2018) and 21-under marks the lowest score in relation to par in major championship history (previous was 20-under, five times).
With seven previous TOUR Championship appearances (2017-2023), Schauffele has finished no worse than T7 at East Lake Golf Club (2023/2; 2022/4; 2021/T5; 2020/T2; 2019/2; 2018/T7; 2017/Won).
Scottie Scheffler remains the FedExCup standings leader following a T8 finish at the PGA Championship. Scheffler, with the help of three wins on the season, leads Schauffele by 1,417 points with 12 weeks remaining until the first round of the FedExCup Playoffs.
