PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Augusta University women’s golf team tied for sixth place with host Michigan State at the Central District Invitational on Tuesday at St Lucie Trail Golf Club.
The CDI began with two rounds in a shotgun format on Monday. No. 7 Furman held onto its big day-one lead and won the event over the 14-team field on the par-72, 6,265-yard course.
Furman finished even par, Memphis snagged second (+23), Louisville third (+26), UNC fourth (+32), and Maryland rounded out the top five (+36). Furman’s Alice Chen was the only competitor to shoot under par for 54 holes at won the individual title (-1).
Augusta sat in third place after 36 holes, but finished with a 909 (+45) to share sixth with the Spartans.
Senior Jessica Haigwood fired a 76 (+4) in round three to pace the Jaguars in a tie for 14th overall and freshman Charlotte Alran earned a tie for 24th after shooting a 78 (+6) in her final outing.
Senior Eunice Yi finished 15 over to tie for 33rd, freshman Linda Lundqvist tied for 37th (+17) and sophomore Maggie Ashmore took 51st (+21).
The Jaguars host their 12th home event in school history March 17-19 in the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Augusta looks to repeat as the team champion after winning the 2016 edition.
