Roswell G.A.– Kyle Mueller of Watkinsville earned medalist honors and qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after posting a 7-under-par 135 (70-65) at a 36-hole sectional at Horseshoe Bend Country Club.
Joining Mueller, who plays golf at the University of Michigan, are Sepp Straka of Valdosta, Tye Waller of Griffin and Zachary Healy of Peachtree Corners. Straka, who plays at the University of Georgia, finished at 6-under-par 136 (65-71). Waller finished at 5-under-par 137 (65-72) and will begin his collegiate career at Georgia Tech this fall. Straka’s teammate at UGA, Healy, posted a 5-under-par 137 (65-72) to round out the four qualifying spots.
Will Starke of Chapin S.C. (74-64) and Cory Crawford of Australia (69-69) finished in a tie at 4-under-par 138. Crawford was not present at the start of the playoff, so Starke earned the first alternate spot and Crawford finished as the second.
After the first 18 holes of play, 61 players made the cut at 5-over-par 76 and better.
This was the second of two 36-hole qualifiers in the state of Georgia for the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship. The field of 132 players competed for four automatic spots into the Championship, which will take place at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Il., August 17-23, 2015.
