RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 47 GRU Augusta women’s golf team finished 48-over par to take 15th place out of 18 teams at the NCAA East Regional in Raleigh, N.C., at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Saturday (May 9th, 2015).
The Jaguars shot a 300 (+12) in the third and final round of 18 holes at the regional. It was their best round of the event and finished them 15th. No. 2 South Carolina won the event at 13-over par, while No. 15 Northwestern (+21) took second, No. 42 NC State third (+23), No. 31 Alabama (+24) and No. 7 LSU tied for fourth, and Campbell rounded it out in sixth. The top six teams advance to the championships.
Sophomore Eunice Yi shot a 76 (+4) in round three and finished in a tie for 43rd to pace the squad. Sophomore Teresa Caballer Hernani finished tied for 48th overall with a 78 (+6) and sophomore Josefine Nyqvist notched a tie for 55th with a 79 (+7) on Saturday.
Freshman Sonya Knebel and sophomore Jessica Haigwood both carded one-over 73’s – the lowest rounds for the Jags all tournament. Knebel took a tie for 63rd overall and Haigwood placed tied for 68th.
The regional field is made up of 29 automatic qualifiers – earned by winning a conference championship – and 43 at-large bids, which are determined using Golfstat’s team rankings. The top 6 teams after 54 holes at each regional will advance to the May 22-27, 2015 NCAA Championship at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, F.L.
