AUGUSTA, G.A. – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team and Head Coach Jack O’Keefe announced that three new student-athletes have signed and will play for the Jaguars in the 2015-16 Division I golf season.
O’Keefe signed junior-transfer Cooper Brown, from Wallace State Community College, in the National Letter of Intent early signing period. Brown is a Renfrew, Ontario Canada native and attended Wallace State Community College for two years in Hanceville, Ala. Brown was the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Champion as the individual medalist.
Wallace State’s 2014 golf team was one of the program’s best. After capturing an 11th state championship, the Lions finished as the NJCAA Division I national runner-up at the national tournament in Burlington, Iowa. It marked the third national runner-up finish for Wallace State golf.
GRU Augusta also signed sophomore transfer Emmanuel Kountakis from Mercer University and freshman JJ Fletcher from the Millfield School in Wymondham, England.
Emmanuel Kountakis logged 11 tournaments and 32 rounds of play in one season with the Mercer Bears. Kountakis posted the second-lowest stroke average on the team with a 73.28 average score and he carded a 66 for his low round of the season. His best finish was a second place showing at the David Toms Intercollegiate. He ended the year with three top-five finishes, five top 10 and top 20 finishes and with 104 birdies and three eagles.
Joshua James “JJ” Fletcher joins the Jaguars from overseas in Wymondham, England. Fletcher attended the Millfield School in Somerset, England for six years and graduated in 2014. Fletcher lettered in golf under Coach Karen Nichols for all six years. He plans on majoring in business.
