SANDESTIN, Fla. — Another couple of top-20 finishes from Jackson Hiller and Sam Karman, and the No. 5 Oglethorpe men’s golf team earned sixth overall at the Golfweek Fall Invitational on Tuesday. Oglethorpe was one of a slew of nationally recognized teams in the competitive field that competed Monday and Tuesday at Raven Golf Club.
Hiller shot 2 under par for the event after finishing the tournament 1 under over the last 18 holes. It was good for a share of 16th place where he was only three strokes out of the top 10. Karman shot 2 under over the last 18 to land 1 under for the tournament, helping him claim T20 overall only one stroke back of Hiller.
Beck Lewis came next in the scoring for the No. 5 Stormy Petrels. Lewis posted all three rounds in the low 70’s to take 38th overall, then Andy Cruz was only one stroke out of the top 50 after shooting 67 in the opening round and a pair of 75’s after that.
Corbin Scott rounded out the lineup for Oglethorpe in T83. He bookended a tough middle round with a 73 to open and a 69 to close.
As a team, Oglethorpe scored rounds of 277-292-280 for 3 under par on the par 71 course. It was two strokes out of fourth place and three strokes out of third place.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe fired even on the par 5’s, good for ninth in the field, and 7 over on the par 4’s, good for fifth in the field.
- With 54 birdies, Oglethorpe was sixth in the field for that category.
- Hiller and Karman dominated the par 5’s, shooting 4 under and 3 under, respectively.
- Cruz shot 3 under on the par 4’s, and Karman led Oglethorpe at 1 under on the par 3’s.
- Hiller’s 4 under effort on the par 5’s was fifth overall, and he also led Oglethorpe in birdies with 15, ranking seventh.
- Lewis came next for Oglethorpe in birdies with 12, and Karman led Oglethorpe in pars with 35.
