SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Georgia golfers Davis Thompson and Trent Phillips concluded play on Monday in the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club.
Playing the par-70, 7,289-yard layout, Thompson logged a 2-under 68 and Phillips signed for a 1-under 69. They were competing as individuals after the Bulldogs were unable to advance in the tournament’s first cut on Sunday.
Thompson, a senior from Auburn, Ala., concluded his Georgia career at 3-over 283 and in 17th individually. Medalist honors went to Clemson’s Turk Pettit (a Lee-Scott Academy teammate of Thompson’s) at 7-under 273. Thompson finished the year with two victories, six top-10s, and nine top-20s in 10 tournaments.
Thompson, the SEC’s Golfer of the Year, finished second in the final PGA Tour University rankings and earned Korn Ferry Tour membership. He will be exempt into all open, full-field events beginning with the BMW Charity Pro-Am June 10-13. Thompson also holds a sponsor exemption for the PGA Tour’s Rocket Mortgage Classic July 1-4.
Phillips, a junior from Boiling Springs, S.C., came in 22nd with a total of 4-over 284. He posted a win, four top-10s, and five top-20s this season. Next up for Phillips will be the Arnold Palmer Cup as he plays for Team USA June 11-13 in Sugar Grove, Ill.
