MARICOPA, Ariz. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team finished play at the Southern Dunes Invitational on the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course Tuesday.
“There are a lot of positives to take from this first event of the year,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “We didn’t play to our standard overall by taking penalties and costing ourselves shots and momentum in places where we need better execution. However, these are things easily fixed and everyone on the team had stretches of excellent golf and positive improvement from last year. Shaun paced us with two under-par rounds and Luca had an impressive debut as a freshman. We look forward to his contributions to the team.”
The Owls posted a 2-under par total of 286 to finish at 1-over par 865 for the event. KSU finished eighth.
Shaun Cook was the Owls top finisher in the event. He carded a 1-over 73 Tuesday to finish in a tie for 12th at 3-under par 213. Cook made 34 pars and 12 birdies in the 54-hole event.
Freshman Luca Gallingani made an eagle, two birdies and 12 pars to post a 72 in the final round. He finished tied for 24th at even par for the event. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native made 33 pars, 10 birdies and an eagle in his collegiate debut.
Claes Borregaard carded KSU’s low round of the day with a 2-under par 70. The senior made six birdies and nine pars during the round. He finished tied for 32nd at 2-over par 218.
Kyle Bachkosky (71) and Joshua Todd (75) tied for 46th at 7-over par 223.
Playing as an individual, Hunter Gillard (77) tied for 37th at 4-over par 220.
The Owls will return to action Sept. 15-17 at the J.T. Poston Invitational in Waynesville, N.C.
