Roswell, GA —Assistant PGA professional, Seth McCain of Jennings Mill Country Club in Bogart won two matches to capture the title today in the Georgia PGA Match Play Championship, which was conducted at the Peachtree Golf Club in Atlanta.
McCain defeated PGA teaching professional Tim Weinhart 1-up in the first semifinal by making birdies on the final two holes. In the other semifinal match PGA head professional Sonny Skinner, of Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton, defeated PGA life member and Georgia Golf Hall of Fame member James Mason of Dillard by the score 4&3.
In the championship match McCain defeated Skinner 1up. McCain got off to a hot start, taking the lead with birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes to go up 2 up. Skinner battled back to with a par on the 16th hole to square the match, and McCain went 1 up after Skinner was unable to save his par on the 17th hole. Both players made par on the finishing hole earning McCain his first victory in this championship. This is the second Georgia PGA “major” claimed by McCain. He won the Atlanta Open in 2012. For their efforts, McCain took home the first place check of $1,500, while Skinner received $900 as the runner-up.
