ATLANTA, Ga. — Oglethorpe men’s golf sophomore Jackson Hiller is coming off a record breaking debut and a stellar fall season, looking to succeed again this spring.
Hiller carded 14 superb rounds this past fall and set a new school record for lowest fall scoring average at 70.2. The Vero Beach, Florida, native posted a record of 428 wins, 44 losses, and 13 ties which included nine sub-par rounds in his 14 starts.
Hiller won the West Pines Collegiate back in October with a 5 under 54-hole total after rounds of 72-70-66. His closing 66 included five birdies and 16 pars to post a clean card 66, his second of the fall season.
Hiller became the first Petrel in school history to record two 66’s in the fall season. He finished top 16 or better in all five tournaments, including two top 5’s and the win at West Pines.
Hiller’s outstanding fall has him ranked as the nation’s 15th best player and 11th in the south region.
“Hiller has emerged as one of the top players in the nation this fall,” commented head coach Jim Owen. “He has played with poise and confidence all fall. He has taken that step you hope all of your players eventually make. Well, he took that step late last spring as a freshman and has arrived as a threat to win every week going forward.”
Oglethorpe and Hiller open the spring season at No. 4 in the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) poll and No. 7 in the Clippd power rankings. The Stormy Petrels start on the Georgia coast at Savannah Harbor on March 3 before hosting the Jekyll Island Collegiate beginning March 21.
