Bo Andrews fired a team-best 4-under-par 68 to lead Georgia Tech on Sunday, while his four teammates took the top four spots in the individual race to help the Yellow Jackets complete a 20-stroke victory at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate golf tournament.
Seth Reeves, a senior from Duluth, Ga., captured his second collegiate title with an 8-under-par total of 208, while Richard Werenski (212, -4), Schniederjans (213, -3) and Anders Albertson (214, -2) finished 2-3-T4 in the individual race.
Only eight individuals broke par for the weekend on the 7,242-yard, par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course. Andrews, who struggled in his opening round Saturday, wound up tied for 23rd.
“It was a very good effort by everyone this weekend,” said head coach Bruce Heppler, whose team plays again Oct. 4-6 at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga. “When you focus on the team, the individual stuff takes care of itself. Like last weekend, we had five guys on top of their game and playing well. We look forward to getting back out there in a couple of weeks.”
Heppler’s team has won back-to-back tournaments for the first time since the 2001-02 academic year, when Tech won four in a row, and it is the first time since that same year that the individual champion in back-to-back tournaments has been a Yellow Jacket.
Tech began the final round Sunday with a 15-shot lead, but stretched it to 20 by day’s end with a 10-under-par score of 278, completing 54 holes with a 22-under-par total of 842. The margin of victory tied for the fifth-largest in Tech history, and the Jackets won by 20 in a tournament for the sixth time. Tech has led wire-to-wire in both of its tournaments this fall, posting the best score of the day in four of six rounds.
Werenski posted the sixth top-10 finish of his career and second in two events this fall. Albertson, the defending ACC Champion, logged his 11th top-10 finish, while Schniederjans posted his 10th.
