Stockbridge, GA — This past week’s playing of the 86th GWGA’s Georgia Women’s Amateur Championship at Eagles Landing Country Club sported one of the strongest fields in recent history. Of the 38 players vying for the Championship title, 15 held plus handicaps. The competition was as hot as the 98+ temperatures and came down to the last few holes in determining the outcome.
Congratulations goes to Eunice Yi of Evans, GA. in becoming 2015’s Georgia Women’s Amateur Champion defeating Janet Mao of Johns Creek, GA. Ms. Yi posted an impressive sub-par round finishing 72-73-70–215 for the three day tournament (July 27th-29th, 2015). Janet Mao followed a close 2nd posting 72-71-76–219 for the event.
20 year old Eunice Yi just completed her sophomore year at Georgia Regents University-Augusta where she has been a strong part of the Jaguar team. Eunice started playing golf at the age of 14 and as a Junior player took multiple First place finishes and placed Second at the Georgia Junior PGA Championship.
Janet Mao graduated from Johns Creek High School in 2014 and has signed to play golf at Northwestern University. Ms. Mao is the 2014 GSGA Women’s Match Play Champion and 2014 Georgia Junior PGA Champion
Laura Coble of Augusta, GA. took 3rd in a scorecard playoff over two time winner and 2014 Georgia Women’s Amateur Champion, Brenda Pictor of Marietta, GA. Laura has been Georgia Women’s Amateur Champion an impressive 6 times, is the 2014 Georgia Senior Women’s Champion, 9 time winner of the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship and was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 2013.
Laura Coble finished 75-76-71—222 and Brenda Pictor finished 76-72-74—222. Pictor also took the Low Qualifying Senior trophy.
