CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The KSU men’s golf team closed the regular season with a third- place finish at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at the UNC Finley Course Sunday.
“I’m super proud of our effort coming off a short week and injuries,” head coach Bryant Odom said “We led the tournament and were in contention and executed where we needed to but came up just short. It’s exciting to see the trend of the team going into conference next week. Congrats on Kyle and Claes with their top-5 finishes while playing alongside the best player (David Ford) and one of the best teams in college golf in No. 9 North Carolina.”
KSU posted a 4-over par round of 284 to finish at 1-over 841. The Owls picked up key rankings wins over No.16 Duke and No. 62 Michigan State. No. 9 North Carolina won their home event at 1-under par 839.
Kyle Bachkosky carded a 1-over par 71 with 3 birdies and 12 pars. He finished tied for third at 2-under par 208 for the event.
Claes Borregaard rolled in 16 pars and one birdie to record a round of even-par 70. He led the field in Par 3 scoring at 2.80. He finished in a tie for fifth at 1-under par 209.
Luca Gallingani fired KSU’s low round of the day with a 2-under par 68. The freshman made five birdies and four pars over is his final nine holes of the day. He finished tied for 19th at 4-over par 214.
Hunter Gillard (76) rounded out the scoring finishing tied for 27th at 5-over par 215.
Shaun Cook (75) finished tied for 45th at 9-over par 219.
As a team, KSU led the field in Par 3 scoring.
