TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team advanced to the semifinals of match play at the Conference USA Golf Championship at Texarkana Country Club.
KSU posted a 4-under par round of 288 on Wednesday. The Owls finished third at 3-under par 861 for the stroke play portion of the event. Liberty, Sam Houston, Kennesaw State and UTEP clinched a spot in Thursday’s match play semifinal. No. 1 seed Liberty will battle No. 4 UTEP, while No. 2 Sam Houston will face No. 3 Kennesaw State on Thursday morning in the semifinals. The winning teams on Thursday morning advance to face off in the final on Thursday afternoon. The winner of the final receives an an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships.
Claes Borregaard paced KSU again on Wednesday with a 2-under par 70. He made six birdies and eight pars during his round. He finished the tournament tied for the field lead with 14 birdies in the 54-hole event. The senior finished third with a 6-under par total of 210. He played 46 of the 54 stroke play holes at par or better. Borregaard was named to the CUSA All-Tournament Team.
Shaun Cook (73) and Hunter Gillard (70) tied for 21st at 1-over par 217. Gillard played his final 13 holes at 4-under par. Cook fired a 1-under par 35 over his final nine holes of the day.
Kyle Bachkosky (72) and Luca Galligani (72) tied for 31st at 6-over par 217. Gallingani closed with a 2-under par 34 on his final nine holes. Bachkosky rolled in 14 pars during his round.
KSU will tee off in the semifinals of the Conference USA Championships from 9 a.m. – 9:36 a.m. in match play against Sam Houston.
