Georgia Tech’s Seth Reeves won the Southeastern Amateur Championship for the second time in three years over the weekend, firing a final-round 4-under-par 67 to capture a three-stroke victory at the Country Club of Columbus (Ga.).
The rising Tech senior overtook third-round leader and Columbus native Jimmy Beck with his closing round and hoisted the winner’s trophy once again. Reeves shot rounds of 69-71-66-67 for an 11-under-par tournament total of 273.
“It’s a great event. I’m really comfortable out here,” Reeves told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. “I was surprised, I didn’t know how I’d do coming back this year. In my mind, I was defending because I didn’t play last year, so I didn’t know what kind of pressure I’d have. I was really pleased, though.”
Reeves tied for 13th in the stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championship earlier this month at the Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course, guaranteeing himself honorable mention All-America recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America, and opened his summer schedule by tying for 13th at last weekend’s Palmetto Amateur in South Carolina.
