The Georgia women’s team enjoyed several highlights during a mostly successful Fall season, winning one tournament outright, tying for first in another and setting a team record for low single round.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the Fall by winning a one-day, six-team event at Atlanta Athletic Club, with the tournament hosted by Louisville, whose coach Courtney Swaim Trimble grew up at the club where her parents were members.
Harang Lee shot 71-68—139 to tie for second and lead the Lady Bulldogs, finishing one behind the medalist. Freshman Rinko Mitsunaga of Roswell tied for fifth at 149 in her college debut, and fellow freshman Bailey Tardy of Peachtree Corners shot a team best 68 the first round before struggling in the second round later that afternoon.
Georgia placed second in a tournament in Charleston, S.C., finishing seven shots behind Arkansas with an even par 864 total. Jillian Hollis, the third highly-touted freshman on the UGA roster, tied for third at 4-under 212. Tardy shot 215 to tie for seventh with Mitsunaga T17 at 220. All five Georgia starters finished in the top 25.
The Lady Bulldogs shot an all-time best 275 in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship in Nashville, ending up third at 10-under 854 after closing with a 293 in the final round. Mitsunaga led Georgia with a 67 in the second round, followed by Tardy and Lee at 69 and Hollis at 70. The team dropped a 1-under 71.
Lee was low for the Lady Bulldogs for the tournament, placing fourth at 211. Mitsunaga and Hollis tied for seventh at 214, with Tardy T15 at 215.
Tardy led Georgia to a three-way tie for first in the Windy City Collegiate in Chicago, shooting 12-under 214 to take medalist honors by five strokes. Tardy carded scores of 70-67-67.
The Lady Bulldogs again played their best in the second round with a 278 score, but fell back with a final round 290 to finish at 12-under 852, tying Arizona State and host Northwestern. Lee (215), Hollis (216) and Mitsunaga (218) all finished around par, with sophomore Isabella Skinner of Cumming contributing a second round 71.
Georgia closed out the Fall at Stanford, finishing fifth at 870. Lee closed with a 67 to tie for eighth at 214. Manuela Carbajo Re tied for 12th at 215, with Mitsunaga shooting a pair of 71s before struggling the final day. Tardy missed the tournament after suffering a concussion.
Augusta closed out the Fall with a fourth place finish at Kiawah Island (S.C.). The Lady Jaguars were led by Evans junior Eunice Yi, who tied for sixth at 218. Junior Jessica Haigwood of Roswell was T11 at 219.
In their opener in Minnesota, the Lady Jaguars tied for seventh, with Josefine Nyqvist T8 at 222. Yi led Augusta in the Mason Rudolph Championship, tying for seventh at 214. The team finished ninth at 883.
Mercer ended the Fall with its best showing, placing fourth in a tournament hosted by Campbell (N.C.). Freshman Mary Janiga was the medalist at 1-under 215, finishing three shots ahead of the runner-up and nine in front of the third place finisher. Payton Schanen, a freshman from Milton, tied for 16th.
Janiga was seventh and Schanen 16th in Mercer’s Fall opener in Myrtle Beach, with the Bears sixth in the 18-team field. Janiga shot 5-under 211 to tie for fifth and Schanen tied for 20th at 217 at Missouri, with the team finishing back in the pack.
Rain washed out the second and third rounds of Mercer’s tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Schanen shot a 75 to tie for eighth.
