COLUMBUS, GA. – Valdosta State shot a final round 300 to finish 15th with a 38-over 890 at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational at the par 71, 6,515 yard Country Club of Columbus Tuesday, September 30th, 2014.
Lee fired a final round 283 and was the only team to finish under par in the event as it claimed the team title with a one-under 851. West Georgia followed with an 852 after a final round 284 while Columbus State followed at 855 after a final round 290. Lander was two strokes behind after a 292 on Tuesday while Florida Tech shot a final round 289 for an 859 and fifth place.
UNC-Pembroke was four more strokes back after a 289 and North Alabama shot a 299 in the final round to finish seventh at 869. Clayton State (297) was eighth at 871 while Florida Southern (301) and Limestone (289) tied for ninth at 875. Georgia Southwestern finished 11th after a final round 294 that gave it an 881 for the event while Georgia College was five strokes back after a final round 293. Montevallo finished 13th at 888 after a 290 and Coker was 14th at 889 with a final round 294. Delta State followed VSU at 892 after a final round 304 while Post shot a final round 320 and finished 17th at 955.
Chris Rogers tied for 11th as he was even par for the tournament at 213 after a final round 72 while John Fordham tied for 42nd at 221 after a 76 on Tuesday. Wheaton Hall shot a final round 74 and tied for 68th at 229 while Jake Harpe was another two strokes back and tied for 73rd after a final round 231. Derek Roach rounded out the squad at 87th as he shot a final round 78 for a 238.
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, October 20, 2014, when it begins play in the Otter Bay Invitational in Monterey Bay, CA.
