LAKELAND, F.L. – Valdosta State shot a one-under 287 to tie for sixth after the first day of play at the Matlock Collegiate being held at the par 72, 7,065 yard Lone Palm Golf Club Monday February 10th, 2015.
The first day of play was originally to feature 36 holes of play, but the teams completed just 27 holes before heavy rain forced play to stop. The teams will attempt to complete the final nine holes of round two, followed by the third round on Tuesday beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Nova Southeastern had four players shoot under par and raced to a first-round lead as it shot an 11-under 277. Lynn was second at 281 followed by Florida Tech and Barry tied at 284. USC-Aiken was fifth on the round at 285 while West Florida matched VSU at one-under par. Saint Leo was a stroke behind in eight followed by host Florida Southern at 292. Rollins rounded out the top 10 at 293.
Georgia College finished the round 11th at 295 and Columbus State was 12th at 296 while Armstrong State finished the day at 298. St. Edward’s followed at 303 while Eckerd rounded out the field at 330.
The Blazers had two golfers finish under par on the round as Jake Harpe tied for 11th with a two-under 70 while Davis Roche was a stroke behind and tied for 19th. John Fordham and Chris Rogers each shot a 73 to tie for 31st while Andrew Eunice tied for 60th with a 78.
