LAKELAND, F.L. – Valdosta State shot a six-over 294 in the second round and a 297 in the final round to finish ninth at the Matlock Collegiate held at the par 7, 7,065 yard Lone Palm Golf Club Tuesday, February 10th, 2015.
The Blazers finished the tournament 14-over par with a three-round total of 878. Nova Southeastern claimed the team title with a 26-under 838 while Barry was second and 10 shots behind. Lynn finished third at 858 while West Florida was a shot behind in fourth. Host Florida Southern was fifth at 861 while USC-Aiken tallied an 872 for sixth and Florida Tech an 874 for seventh. Saint Leo bested VSU by three strokes while Columbus State was four strokes behind the Blazers to round out the top 10.
Georgia College shot an 889 to finish 11th followed by Rollins at 897. Armstrong State and St. Edward’s tied for 13th at 899 while Eckerd rounded out the field at 972.
John Fordham paced Valdosta State as he tied for 18th and finished the tournament with a one-over 217 after shooting 73-71 on Tuesday. Chris Rogers followed at 219 and tied for 24th as he shot 72-74 while Jake Harpe tallied a 73 and 77 to tie for 30th at 220. Davis Roche was two more strokes behind and tied for 40th after shooting 76-75 while Andrew Eunice rounded out the team at 235 and tied for 67th as he shot 77-80.
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, February 16, 2015 when it opens play in the Newberry Invitational on Kiawah Island, S.C.
