Peachtree City, GA – The first of two 18-hole qualifiers for the 2016 U.S. Open Championship will be conducted by the Georgia State Golf Association on Tuesday, May 10. Planterra Ridge Golf Club in Peachtree City will host a field of 132 players competing for seven qualifying spots and two alternate positions to advance into sectional qualifying. This is one of 111 local qualifiers taking place nationwide from May 2-19.
A second local qualifier in Georgia will take place Monday, May 16, at Jennings Mill Country Club in Watkinsville. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stroke play conducted at two international sites (Japan and England) and 10 United States’ sites on June 6, including Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell.
Planterra Ridge Golf Club is hosting a U.S. Open Local Qualifier for the sixth time, and first since 2010. The head golf professional is Shannon Haney and the Superintendent is Ben Brooks.
