ATHENS, G.A. — Georgia’s Lee McCoy has been named Golfweek’s National Player of the Week and the SEC’s Player of the Week for the second time this season. McCoy also has jumped to third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
McCoy, a junior from Clarkesville, G.A., made school history on Sunday (April 5th, 2015) when he won the 3M Augusta Invitational for his third consecutive victory – the first Bulldog to accomplish that feat. He has won four times overall this year, matching the single-season mark set by Chris Kirkin 2006-07 and matched by Russell Henley in 2009-10.
McCoy fired a final-round 8-under 64 to finish at 16-under 200, four shots better than Texas’ Scottie Scheffler. McCoy’s 8-under and 16-under totals are the second-lowest round and tournament figures, respectively, in school history.
McCoy’s season average now stands at 69.54 and he is rated third and fourth (the top SEC golfer) in the Golfweek/Sagarin and GolfStat rankings, respectively.
McCoy and the Bulldogs will return to action April 17-19, 2015 at the SEC Championship on St. Simons Island.
