St. Simons Island, GA. — After nearly seven hours of weather delays over three days, Tim Weinhart, PGA Coach at Heritage Golf Links in Tucker took home the title at the 63rd L&J Golf Georgia PGA Championship presented by Golf Pro Payments, Southern Tide, StickX Golf and the PGA Tour at Sea Island Golf Club’s Plantation Course.
Weinhart was co-leader with Peter Jones, PGA Coach at Cherokee Towne & Country Club after round one and two but was able to pull away on the back nine in round three with a couple of birdies on 13 and 14 to win by two strokes at 11-under par 205. With the win, Weinhart becomes the 4th Georgia PGA Member to win at least four Georgia PGA Championships, joining Dewitt Weaver Jr (6), Stephen Keppler (4) and James Mason (4).
Finishing in a tie for third at 5-under par 211 were PGA Head Professional Todd Sapere at Ohoopee Match Club and PGA Head Professional at Frederica Golf Club. Rounding out the top five at 4-under par 212 was Richard Rebne, PGA Assistant Golf Professional at The Farm Golf Club.
Sitting in third place after two rounds, three shots off the pace was PGA Head Professional Jake Keen of Maple Ridge Golf Club in Columbus. Keen had to withdraw over night to head back to Columbus for the birth of his second child and miss out on the final round.
The Plantation Course at Sea Island is a par 72 and played at 6,803 yards for the championship. Brannen Veal is the PGA Director of Golf and Johann Emanuel and Jon Olson are Co-Head PGA Professionals. The L&J Golf Georgia PGA Championship is the only 54-hole event conducted by the Georgia PGA.
