OPELIKA, Ala. – Sophomore Jake Fendt and freshman Connor Coffee each carded 2-under par 70s to lead the No. 41-ranked Kennesaw State men’s golf team on Monday and help the Owls finish fourth at the Tiger Invitational that was held at the par-72, 7,149-yard Grand National Lakes Course in Opelika, Ala.
Kennesaw State posted a final-round 4-under par 284 to finish the 54-hole event with a 3-over par 867. Host and No. 23 Auburn captured the team title with a 13-under par 851 total to record a five-shot victory over Troy (856, -8). Twenty-Seventh-ranked Missouri placed third at 7-under par 857.
“I am really proud of the team’s resiliency this weekend,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “We were able to finish very strong today and place in a respectable position with quality efforts from everyone in the lineup,” head coach Bryant Odom said.
Senior Christopher Guglielmo led the way for the Owls as he placed 10th with a 4-under par total of 212 after carding rounds of 65-75-72. His opening-round 65 established a career-best on a par-72 course.
Fendt rebounded from a first-round 76 to shoot 71-70 and finish tied for 21st at 1-over 217. Senior Teremoana Beaucousin (75-73-72 – 220, +4) tied for 36th, while Coffee (73-80-70 – 223, +7) tied for 54th, and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (74-77-81 – 232, +16) tied for 89th.
“Our best golf is ahead and it will come in the most important moments of the season,” Odom said. “Days like today are great for confidence building and showing that we are tough enough when we don’t have our best.”
Kennesaw State will next be in action at the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia at Athens Country Club on March 13.
