TIFTON, Ga. — Jack Hall and Doug Hanzel, both of Savannah, successfully defend their title and win the Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship at 18-under-par 198 (68-64-66). This year’s competition took place at both Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton and Sunset Country Club in Moultrie, November 9-11.
Hall and Hanzel earned the three-stroke victory over two teams who finished at 15-under-par 201, including Phil Hardin and Gay McMichael, both of Macon (65-68-68), and Chris Hall of Marietta and Donny Phillips, Jr., of Suwanee (65-68-68). Hardin/McMichael and Hall/Phillips share runner-up honors.
This win marks the second in-a-row for Hall and Hanzel as they won a year ago at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler. Hall also won the Senior Four-Ball Championship in 2013 when he partnered with Chris Hall at the Country Club of Columbus.
The Championship B title goes to Jeff Jursik and Ernie Venet, both of Moultrie, who won the flight at 5-under-par 211 (67-72-72). Mark Sexton and Brad Vanacore, both of Columbus, win the Championship C flight at 12-over-par 228 (79-75-74).
Jeff Belk of Marietta and Mark Nickerson of Roswell finished fourth at 12-under-par 204 (66-68-70). Jack Kearney and John Landis, both of Peachtree City, came in fifth at 10-under-par 206 (68-69-69). Sixth-place goes to James Kiely of Milton and Frank Remmes of Lilburn at 8-under-par 208 (68-71-69). John Cable of Canton and John Foster of Woodstock finished seventh at 7-under-par 209 (70-71-68). Three teams tied for eighth overall at 5-under-par 211, including Al Bello of Kathleen/Jeff Gougeon of Valdosta (69-71-71), Mel Mendenhall of Marietta/Larry Vaughan of Greensboro (72-68-71) and Jursik/Venet (67-72-72). Rounding out the overall top 10 is the tandem of Brian Johnston of Duluth and Paul Ryan of Norcross in 10th at 4-under-par 212 (69-73-70).
Down the road at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie, Bill Leonard of Kennesaw and Don Marsh of Johns Creek win the Super Senior Four-Ball Championship at 13-under-par 203 (65-68-70). Finishing four strokes back in the runner-up spot were Frank Costanzo and Thomas Rood, both of Savannah, at 9-under-par 207 (72-69-66).
In the second flight of Super Senior action, Buzz Alexander and Dick Donegan, both of Kennesaw, won with a steady even-par 216 (72-72-72). Tom Howard of Woodstock and Carl Pitts of Tallahassee won the Super Senior third flight at 14-over-par 230 (76-76-78).
The Championship division was contested at Spring Hill Country Club in Tifton, while the Super Senior Division was played at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie.
