Braselton, Georgia (April 1, 2012) – The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour hosted the Chateau Elan Jr. Shootout this weekend. Players from Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Massachusetts, and Maryland, as well as from Canada came to compete. The HJGT has hosted multiple tournaments over the past few years at Chateau Elan’s magnificent course and this year the course’s condition was no exception as it was pristine and received many compliments from the competitors.
The Boys 15-18 Division saw some of the best play that has been present so far this year. The first place trophy was taken by Logan Lanier of St. Augustine, Fl. Lanier posted an astounding two day total score of -2. Lanier had a total of seven birdies with four of them coming in his first round on Saturday. Second place was taken by Georgia’s own Taylor Martin of Braselton, GA. Martin was in close contention for the lead posting a two day total score of -1. Martin birdied five holes in his first round of tournament play, but it did not prove to be enough to get him the win. However, Martin was the only player this weekend to pull off an eagle on the fifteenth hole which is a par 5. He also went home with the best par five performance average of 4.33. Another Georgia native, Justin Mattheis of Decatur, rounded out the top three and finished the weekend with a two day total score of +4.
In the Girls 15-18 Division, Bella Skinner of Cumming, GA was the only Georgia competitor in the top three. She won first place by posting a two day total score of -1. Skinner’s first round proved to be what gave her the boost to take the first place trophy this weekend. Skinner had an above average round by managing to have a total of seven birdies. In her second round of play, Skinner was not so fortunate and shot +3 for the round. Skinner took home the first place trophy and led in multiple categories including: most birdies with 8, best par four performance average of 3.95, and best par five performance average of 4.67. Alyssa Getty from Leamington, ON, won second place with a two day total score of +3. Getty managed to improve her second round by three strokes but it was not enough to contend with the leader. Rachel Lee of Woodstock, MD, finished third with a two day total score of +6.
In the Boys 11-14 Division, all three top finishers were home state competitors. Georgia standout Hunter Dunagan of Martinez, GA, took home his 5th first place trophy of the 2012 HJGT season. Dunagan posted a two day total score of +1. Dunagan had a total of five birdies, and also had the best par three performance average of 2.75, most pars with 27, and the best par four performance average of 4.09. Spencer Ralston of Gainesville, GA, took second place by posting a two day total score of 144. Ralston had the most birdies with a total of seven, the best par five performance average of 4.33, and also managed to eagle the par five hole number nine. Anthony Whobrey of Jefferson, GA, finished third with a two day total score of 153.
The Girls 11-14 Division, Harmanprit Kaur took home her first win of the season with a two day total score 153. Kaur led the field the entire weekend in all aspects to help carry her to her first place win including: most birdies with 2, par three performance average of 3.25, par four performance average of 4.36, and par five performance average of 5.17. Ella Woods of St. Augustine, FL, placed second with a two day total score of 164. The only Georgia competitor in the Girls 11-14 Division to place in the top three was Keagan Dunn of Buford, GA. Keagan finished the weekend with a two day total score of 180.
