AUGUSTA, G.A. – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team finished sixth in their 37th-annual home event at the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on Sunday, April 5, 2015.
After an opening 36 holes on Saturday on the par-72, 7,005-yard course, the Jags moved to sixth place and finished the event at 16-under par. No. 25 New Mexico outlasted No. 5 Illinois for team medalist honors. The Lobos ended 26-under par, while the Fighting Illini took second at 23-under par. No. 33 Georgia finished third, No. 2 Texas fourth and No. 35 Houston rounded out the top-five teams.
UGA’s Lee McCoy, ranked No. 6 in the nation, won the event at 16-under par – shooting 68, 68, and 64 to win the tournament.
GRU Augusta was led by Viktor Edin who finished tied for sixth at eight-under par with his round-three 68 (-4). Edin had six birdies in his final round, three on the front and back. Maverick Antcliff placed next for GRU and tied for 13th overall, ending four-below par. Antcliff shot a 73 (+1) in the finale.
Robin Petersson finished tied for 20th with a 72 (E) in round three. Petersson shot even-par 72 in the final round, while Cody Shafer carded a 74 (+2) to tie for 35th. Shafer notched three birdies in round three and ended 54 holes at even par. Jake Marriott rounded out GRU Augusta in a tie for 54th with his 78 in round three.
GRU Augusta’s Broc Everett, competing as an individual, tied for 25th in the field and shot a one-under 71 in his last outing.
The Jags play at the Boilermaker Invitational, hosted by Purdue, at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, I.N., on April 18-19, 2015.
