ATHENS, G.A. — Georgia’s Lee McCoy has been chosen as the National Golfer of the Week by Golfweek and as the Co-Golfer of the Week by the Southeastern Conference.
McCoy shared the SEC honor with Texas A&M’s Greg Yates. This is the second time this year the league has recognized McCoy.
The junior from Clarkesville, G.A., earned medalist honors in the Linger Longer Invitational and led the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish on Sunday, March 22, 2015. He finished at 14-under-par 202 for a 2-shot victory over Texas’ Beau Hossler. The 14-under total and his opening round of 7-under both rank third in school history. McCoy’s season average now stands at 69.60. The win was McCoy’s second of the season and the third of his career. He stands No. 4 (and is the highest-rated SEC player) in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
McCoy and his Georgia teammates will play in the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C., Sunday and Monday, March 29th and 30th.
