ATLANTA, G.A.–Coming off a spectacular month of golf, Georgia State junior J.J. Grey has been named the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Month for March as announced by the conference office on Wednesday, April 1st, 2015.
Grey led the Panthers with three top-two finishes in four tournaments during the month. He won the prestigious Southern Intercollegiate, while finishing second at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner and the Furman Intercollegiate this past weekend. He also tied for 30th at the Linger Longer Invitational which featured seven teams ranked in the top 35.
He opened the month shooting 70-69-70 at the Tiger Invitational, leading Georgia State to a third-place finish, only behind top 10 Auburn and top 50 Troy.
Grey followed by winning the one-day, 36-hole Southern Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia and GRU-Augusta at Athens Country Club. He shot 72-68 to win by one and lead the Panthers to a second-place finish.
In his tie for 30th at the Linger Longer Invitational, Grey shot 70-73-74. He closed the month shooting 71-66-72 (-7) for a second-place finish at Furman’s event, which led the Panthers to a 16-stroke victory, the seventh-largest in program history.
“I am happy for J.J. to earn this honor,” head coach Joe Inman said. “He has been working hard on his game and it really came together during the month of March. That was one of the most dominating months I have seen in my seven years at Georgia State. He stepped up for our team when we needed him and I am proud of him for that.”
Grey shot par or better in 9 of 11 rounds during March and never shot worse than 74. He is now ranked No. 156 by Golfweek.
Grey previously earned Sun Belt Golfer of the Month in Oct. 2012, March 2013 and April 2014.
Georgia State will return to the course for its final regular-season event, the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by Davidson and Charlotte, April 11-12, 2015.
