ATLANTA – The Georgia State men’s golf team will begin a busy stretch of four tournaments in four weeks traveling just across the state line into Alabama for the Graeme McDowell Invitational at Silver Lakes Golf Club, a part of the Robert Trent Jones trail beginning on Monday.
The field of 15 teams, including six Sun Belt Conference members, will play the two-day, 54-hole event in Gadsden, Ala.
Georgia State is coming off a near record-setting performance to open the year at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Panthers three-round total of 837 tied for the third-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history. It was the lowest total since Georgia State put together an 841 total at the 2016 Furman Intercollegiate and was just six strokes off the school record.
The Panthers will play each of the next four Monday-Tuesdays to wrap up the fall season on Oct. 19.

McDowell, who starred at UAB and has been extremely successful on the PGA and European Tours, won the Georgia State hosted Atlanta Intercollegiate three-straight years around the turn of the century.
Quotable: “This is the start of what we hope is a great stretch of golf for us,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “Although our finish wasn’t what we wanted it to be in Arizona, I like what I saw from our guys, especially considering it was the first tournament for several of our guys. The key is to use some of the good things we did there and build on them this week.”
