ATLANTA – Georgia State men’s golf coach Chad Wilson announced the signing of Denmark’s Frederik Hedmark and Germany’s David Li to a National Letters of Intent on Thursday. Both highly ranked international junior golfers will join the Panthers in the fall.
Hedmark represented the Danish junior national team from 2013-16 playing in a pair of Junior European Team Championships for his home country. He tied for 12th place as an individual at the event in 2014.
“I first saw Frederik in 2015 at the European Boys Team Championship in Finland,” Wilson said. “He was representing Denmark and was the youngest player on probably the most talented team at that event. Of the six guys on that squad, he is one of five that went on to play Division 1 golf. Frederik has the type of game that will allow him to compete on each course he walks on to. He is a strong player with a great understanding of what it looks like to be successful at each level of golf. He is adding tremendous talent to this signing class and we are excited for his arrival.”
Over the last five years he has had four top 40 finishes in four tries on the Eccoturen Tour. He qualified for the Junior British Open in 2014 and since then has also had four top four finishes in either young-senior events or national championships in Denmark.
He has represented Kolding Golf Club for the last five years and was the club champion twice (2013-14).
Li has been ranked as high as No. 89 in the European Golf Rankings U18 age group and is a member of the German National Junior Team. He recently finished fourth at the Peter Mcevoy Trophy and in 2017 was the runner-up at the German National Men’s Amateur Championship.
“We are extremely happy David has chosen to become a Panther,” Wilson said. “As a member of the German National Junior Team, he has a lot of playing experience on championship style courses. His golf IQ is very high and I fully expect him to come in and start making an impact for this program immediately.
“One of the more impressive side notes about David is at one time he was a world class piano player. This unique talent just adds to an already impressive resume that he has and we cannot wait for his arrival in August.”
In 2016 Li finished in third place at both the Theodoro Soldati Trophy (Italian Boys U16) and as Team Germany at the European Young Masters. In 2014 he was the Pars Junior Champion U14.
In 2017 he finished in second place at the Deutsche Meisterschaften at Hardenberg and also earned at 26th-place finish at the International Juniors of Belgium.
Georgia State will return to the course to open title defense of the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Sunday at The Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Fla.
