ATLANTA – The Georgia State men’s golf team will open the fall season on Friday for the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz. Despite being nearly 2,000 miles from Atlanta, the Panthers will serve as host for the event for a fifth-straight tournament.
The field of 14 teams will play Mirabel Golf Club, a private course on the north side of Scottsdale. The course will play to a par 70, 7,115 yards for the 54-hole event. The field includes four teams that reached the NCAA Championship last May and another eight teams that qualified for NCAA Regional play.
Georgia State will be looking to get back to Arizona in May as Grayhawk Golf Club, just down the street from Mirabel, will host the NCAA Championship for a second-straight year. The Panthers have qualified for five NCAA Championships since 2000 and have made 14 NCAA Regional appearances since 1998.
This week will mark the first of two events the Panthers will host over the next five weeks, concluding with the annual Georgia State Invitational at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Oct. 11-12.

Did You Know: The Maui Jim Intercollegiate unfortunately had to be cancelled last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event has been played at Mirabel Golf Club four times in the first five years. The only time it wasn’t played at Mirabel was when it moved over to Desert Mountain in Year 2 as the greens were being redone at Mirabel.
Quotable: “We are excited to get the season underway,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We love making the trip out to Scottsdale and hosting some of the best teams in the country. “The Maui Jim Intercollegiate has become one of the best tournaments in college golf because of the course, staff, volunteers, and sponsors who make it a special event for all of the players involved.”
