EATONTON, Ga. – The Georgia College golf squad shot 24 strokes better than its opening round, firing a final round 291 to finish seventh at plus-46. Valdosta State finished the 36-hole tournament in 13th place at 57-over par with a 617. The par-70, 6,847-yard Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee course served as the backdrop for the 93-golfer field.
For Georgia College, Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) finished tops on the squad and 14th overall, posting rounds of 75 and 74 for nine-over par. Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) shaved 10 strokes off his first round 80 to post the Bobcats’ lowest round on day two, finishing 20th at 10-over. Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) was 36th with rounds of 80 and 73 for 13-over, and Nicolas Falkinhoff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) posted the final counting round for the starters with a 74 and 80 for 14-over par. Pontus Andersson (Helsingborg, Sweden) cut 10 strokes off his effort from yesterday with rounds of 87 and 77 to round out the starters at 84th place.
The Bobcats also sent four individuals to the field, with freshman Conner Albright (Macon, Ga.) leading the way at 20th overall after rounds of 76 and 74. Classmate Harry Lambert (Suwanee, Ga.) posted rounds of 84 and 75 to finish 68th and David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) added a 92 and 76 to the fray in 90th. Harrison Stewart (Roswell, Ga.) carded rounds of 89 and 86 as well.
For Valdosta State, Alex Jones paced the team as he matched his first round of 76 to tie for 31st at 152. Florian Schmiedel was a stroke back overall and tied for 36th after a final round 74 while Austin McNeill shot a final round 77 to tie for 54th at 156. Michael Nutter was 10-over in the final round and finished tied for 68th at 159 while John Fordham tied for 84th with a 164 after a final round 77. Playing as an individual, Mitch Lomis also shot an 80 on Tuesday and tied for 91st at 169.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, March 24 at the Bearcat Invitational in Greenwood, S.C. and Valdosta State opens play on Monday, March 31 at the Buccaneer Invitational in Miami Shores, Fla.
