DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Led by senior All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selection Thomas Hodges (Monroe), the Georgia College Golf team took 10th place at the UNG Fall Invitational hosted by the University of North Georgia. The Bobcats finished at plus-37 after rounds of 310, 290 and 301 on the par-72, 6,967-yard Achasta, by Reynolds course.
The Bobcats beat Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Flagler College as well as the University of Montevallo and Shorter University from the Gulf South Conference.
Hodges led the Bobcats with a six-over effort, posting consistent rounds of 73, 74 and 75.
Sophomore Drew Duffie (Evans) had the best single-round score for the Bobcats this tournament with his second-round 68. Duffie added bookend rounds of 77 and 79 to finish 32nd at eight over. Third on the team and 41st overall in the 76-golfer field was senior Justin Connelly (McDonough), carding rounds of 78, 78 and 72, a team-low for round three. Connelly finished 12-over.
Freshman Daniel Davis (Columbus) was 17-over in 57th with rounds of 81, 71 and 80. Junior Matias Chiappero (Santa Fe, Argentina) rounded out the Bobcat golfers in 61st, posting scores of 82, 71 and 80.
Newberry College took the team title, the only sub-par team at two-under. The Wolves beat the day one host Lander University by five strokes. Newberry’s Carlos Leandro won the individual medalist at eight-under, edging Lander’s Connor Richards and UNG’s Joseph Jarrard by a single stroke.
The Bobcats are back in action Monday, Oct. 16 to finish the fall season at the Copperhead Championship in Pensacola, Florida.
