HARTFORD, Wisc. – Led by a 4-under 68 from senior Josh Edgar, the Georgia State men’s golf team finished in eighth-place at the Marquette Intercollegiate at historic Erin Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.
Edgar made five birdies and just one bogey to finish the 54-hole event at 1-under par and tied for 12th place.
Senior Ashton Poole led the Panthers for the three-day event by tying for seventh-place at 3-under par following a final round 75.
Georgia State shot its low round of the tournament, a 2-under par 286, to finish at 13-over par. It marked the second-straight tournament to open the season that the Panthers shot under par in the final round.
“Overall I thought we played pretty well this week,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We had a bad stretch of about four or five holes on Monday that cost us a better result this week. Our guys are excited about the direction we are moving and are ready to come home and play in front of our home fans in just a few days.”
Senior Egill Gunnarsson added a 1-under par 71 to finish at 11-over par and tied for 50th. Senior Severin Soller made six birdies and added an even par 72 to finish at 13-over par and tied for 57th. Soller played the final 36 holes of the tournament in 1-under par. Sophomore David Li rounded out the line-up with a 6-over 78 and finished in 67th-place at 18-over par.
Georgia State will return to the course next Monday and Tuesday hosting the Autotrader Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth.
