David Burke Elected President at GSGA’s Annual Meeting

MARIETTA, Ga. – David Burke of Canton was elected president of the Georgia State Golf Association for a two-year term, highlighting the Association’s 2017 Annual Meeting at Cherokee Town Club in Atlanta on Saturday, January 21.

A 1998 graduate of Georgia Southern University, Burke has enjoyed a 28-year career in the Insurance and Employee Benefits field and is currently the Regional Sales Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.

Burke is a member of Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw and has served the GSGA as a Rules Official and has sat on various committees, including chairman of the Junior Golf Committee. He has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2013. Burke and his wife, Kelly, reside in Canton and have two grown children, Adam (25) and Katie (23).

Belinda Marsh of Johns Creek, a member of Rivermont Golf Club in Johns Creek, was elected to begin a two-year term as president-elect. She will serve in this capacity and then become president upon the conclusion of Burke’s service.

Kris Mikkelsen of Atlanta, a member of Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, was elected to serve a one-year term as GSGA’s secretary-treasurer.

Other Executive Committee members who will continue in their current terms in 2017 are Laura Coble of Augusta (Augusta Country Club), Hal Hayes of Savannah (The Landings Club), Jim Ingram of Marietta (RiverPines Golf) and Chuck Kennedy of Atlanta (Peachtree Golf Club). Bill Blalock of Atlanta (Capital City Club) is the President of the GSGA Foundation until June 30, 2018, and will serve on the Executive Committee until that time.

Dave Ballard of Woodstock (Indian Hills Country Club), whose term as GSGA president concluded at the 2017 Annual Meeting, remains an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee as immediate past president while Burke serves as president.

Jimmy Singer of Atlanta (Indian Hills Country Club) was reappointed as the GSGA’s general counsel.

GSGA welcomed three new members to the Executive Committee: Charlie Anderson of Johns Creek (Atlanta Athletic Club), Ralph Stokes of Atlanta (Atlanta Country Club) and Dave Turner of Canton (Woodmont Golf & Country Club).

The management of the Georgia State Golf Association is vested in its Board of Directors. The Board meets annually to review the activity of the Association, transact any business and elect a new slate of officers and directors. The GSGA Executive Committee, which includes the Officers, meets quarterly to manage the business affairs of the Association between annual meetings.
