Hoover, A.L. – In a predominantly Division I field, the Columbus State University women’s golf team put together strong performances at the Samford Women’s Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday, March 23rd and 24th. The two-day event was held at the Hoover Country Club in Hoover, A.L.
Columbus State had three individuals compete in a field that featured eight NCAA Division I schools, including SEC school Mississippi which won the event.
Courtney Lowery carded a first round of seven-over par 79 before a pair of rounds of 78 to earn a top-20 finish. The sophomore tied for 16th overall and finished ahead of 45 other competitors in the 65-golfer field.
Ciera Bagley carded a 91 in the opening round before improving in each of the next two. Bagley turned in an 85 in round two before an 83 on the final day of the tournament. The senior ended the tournament in 47th place.
Shelby Banta was the final Lady Cougar to participate, finishing in 53rd. Banta turned in rounds of 93, 84 and 91 in rounds one, two and three, respectively.
Columbus State has one more tournament before competing in the Peach Belt Conference Championship. The final regular season event will be April 6-7, 2015, as the Lady Cougars head to Carrollton, G.A. for the UWG Wolf Invitational.
