Columbus, G.A. – Improving four shots from the opening round, the Columbus State University women’s golf team fired a final round 375 to wrap up play at the Lady Cougar Classic powered by TSYS on Tuesday February 24th, 2015. The two-day event was played at the Country Club of Columbus.
Coupled with a score of 379 on Monday, the Lady Cougars totaled 754 over two rounds of play.
Down six shots entering the day, Lander rallied to win the tournament with a final score of 645. Montevallo (648), Shorter (652), UNC Pembroke (653) and Lee (654) rounded out the top five.
Carding the third-best round of the day, Courtney Lowery ended as Columbus State’s top finisher. The sophomore fired a final round of four-over par 76 to earn an eighth-place finish. Her total of 161 put her 17-over par, six shots back of the individual winner.
Ciera Bagley closed out the tournament with a top-30 finish after an 88 on Tuesday. The senior shot 170 for the event and tied for 28th overall.
Shelby Banta was three strokes behind Bagley on Tuesday with a second-round 91. Banta wrapped up the lone home tournament of the season tied for 45th overall at 35-over par.
Courtney Jacquay knocked four strokes off her first round score and finished in 55th, while Brianna Henthorn closed out the tournament in 56th place.
Columbus State is right back at it next week as the Lady Cougars head to Savannah, Ga. for the Lady Pirate Invitational. Play begins on Monday, March 2nd, 2015 at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.
