ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia women’s golf arrived in Guadalajara, Mexico, ahead of the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club, which is set to take place on Friday and Saturday.
The Collegiate Invitational is Georgia’s first team competition of the spring and will open with 27 continuous holes of play on Friday. The teams will then re-pair based on the first day’s results before completing the final 27 holes on Saturday. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, with Georgia teeing off from hole No. 1 in nine-minute intervals between 11:15-11:51 a.m.
“There was a lot of positive to take from the Lady Bulldog this past week that we will carry with us to Mexico,” head coach Erika Brennan said. “It will be another great field of teams, and we will need to put a premium on our mental belief and confidence. Chantal, Morgan, and Celine looked really strong at the Lady Bulldog, and we know that Kate and Grace are highly capable to put up consistently great scores. It’s going to be a great test of golf, and the team is ready.”
Georgia is one of 12 teams in a stacked field in Guadalajara that includes four squads ranked in the top 25 in the latest Clippd rankings. Virginia and Florida State enter the tournament as the top-ranked teams in the field, coming in at No. 11 and No. 12, respectively, while Big 12 opponents TCU and Houston hold rankings of No. 23 and No. 25. Other teams making the trip to Mexico include Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa, Maryland, NC State, SMU, and Washington.
The Collegiate Invitational marks the second of three-straight tournament weekends for the Bulldogs, who kicked off the spring season by hosting the Lady Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 25. Chantal El Chaib and Morgan Smith each carded a 3-under 69 in the 18-hole tournament to earn a share of second place. El Chaib sunk five birdies at the UGA Golf Course, including one on hole No. 1 to remain under par for the entire round, while Smith carded three birdies and her second eagle of the season on hole No. 18. Celine Brovold Sanne also finished in the top 10 with an even-par 72, which was good for ninth place.
In Georgia’s return to team play, El Chaib will lead off the Bulldogs’ lineup in the first position while Smith occupies the second spot. Kate Song, who tied for 16th at the Lady Bulldog Invitational, will take the third position while Brovold Sanne sits in the fourth spot. Grace Frei, who also tied for 16th in Athens, occupies the fifth and final spot in the lineup.
The Bulldogs return to Guadalajara to compete in the Collegiate Invitational for the third-straight season. Georgia placed third in the tournament in each of the last two seasons behind runner-up performances from Jenny Bae and Caterina Don in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Georgia will be paired with TCU and Colorado on Friday, with Frei teeing off first for the Bulldogs at 11:15 a.m. Live scoring will be available at https://gado.gs/cjb
