VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — The Georgia men’s golf team will take on Alabama in the SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
On Monday, the Bulldogs wrapped up stroke play on the par-70, 7,204-yard layout at Old Overton Club with a round of 6-under 274. Georgia wound up sixth in the stroke play portion of the event at 19-under 821. Alabama was one shot better than the Bulldogs at 20-under 820.
Stroke play team honors went to Vanderbilt at 39-under 801, followed by Tennessee at 35-under 805. The Commodores and the Volunteers will meet Tuesday for the match play championship.
Senior Nicolas Cassidy wrapped up a personal-record-setting week in the stroke play portion on Monday. He posted a 5-under 65 in the third round to wind up at 11-under 199 and in fifth place — all career bests. His card on Monday included an eagle and five birdies.
Senior Ben van Wyk added a 4-under 66, followed by junior Caleb Manuel at 1-over 71, and senior Connor Creasy at 2-over 72. Sophomore Buck Brumlow had the Bulldogs’ non-counting round of 4-over 74.
Cassidy was only two strokes shy of medalist Matthew Riedel of Vanderbilt. Van Wyk took 12th at 7-under 203. Manuel, making his Georgia debut after two seasons at UConn, landed in 39th at even-par 201. Creasy and Brumlow each finished at 2-over 212 for 44th.
Tuesday’s matchups will feature Brumlow against JP Cave, Manuel against Nick Dunlap, Cassidy against Tyler Lipscomb, Creasy against Canon Claycomb, and van Wyk against Thomas Ponder.
