INNISBROOK, Fla. – The Georgia College Golf squad finished 15th Tuesday at the Copperhead Championship, hosted by the University of West Florida. The Bobcats saved their best team round for last, shooting 309 to go with yesterday’s 311s for a plus-79 effort.
Senior Justin Connelly (McDonough, Georgia) posted the team’s best round today at 72, matching sophomore Drew Duffie’s (Evans, Georgia) second-round score for the team’s best of the tournament. Connelly finished 55th in the 75-golfer field at 17-over adding his pair of 79s yesterday.
Tops on the squad was senior Thomas Hodges (Monroe, Georgia) in 51st place, posting rounds of 73, 79 and 77 for 16-over on the par-71 7,209-yard Innisbrook Resort-Copperhead Course.
Duffie finished 59th at 18-over with rounds of 81, 72 and 78. Classmate Matty Hines (Woodstock, Georgia)had rounds of 78, 82 and 82 for 29-over in 72nd place. Rounding out the Bobcats was junior Matias Chiappero (Santa Fe, Argentina) in 74th at plus-36.
No. 3 Florida Southern College took the team title at five-over par. The Mocs bested the field by three over second-place team No. 1 West Florida. Of the 14 teams ahead of the Bobcats, 11 are ranked in the nation’s top-25, as joining FSC and UWF were No. 2 Lynn University, No. 4 Barry University, No. 5 Nova Southeastern University, No. 9 USC Aiken, No. 10 Saint Leo University, No. 13 California Baptist University, No. 16 Lee University, No. 22 University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 23 Lander University.
