RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The Augusta University women’s golf team competed in the Lamkin Invitational, March 25-27, at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Placing 10th after one round of stroke play, the Jaguars regained momentum and went undefeated through rounds of match play.
Hosted by San Diego State at The Farms Golf Club, the Lamkin Invitational featured 12 teams competing in stroke play and match play on the 6,318-yard, par-72 course. Teams played 18 holes of stroke play on Monday morning and 18 holes of match play in the afternoon. They returned with 18 holes of match play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The tournament included No. 44 Augusta, No. 47 California, Central Arkansas, No. 31 Pepperdine, Portland State, Sacramento State, No. 46 San Diego State, No. 33 San Jose State, No. 42 Texas Tech, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and No. 6 Vanderbilt.
Augusta and Vanderbilt were the only two teams to go undefeated in match play and won all three matches 4-1.
Pepperdine topped the team leaderboard at 10-over-par after round one, while Augusta was in 10th at 35-over-par. Sophomore Teresa Diez-Moliner paced the Jags in a tie for 24th (+7) thorough round one with AU’s low score of 79. Junior Linda Lundqvist shot 8-over to take a tie for 31st, senior Cecilia Diez-Moliner finished in 37th, senior Maggie Ashmore 47th, and junior Charlotte Alran 54th.
The Jags moved on to the round robin bracket of match play vs. Portland State and won 4-1 on Monday. AU advanced to face UC Davis on Tuesday and prevailed 4-1, before winning 4-1 over Central Arkansas on Wednesday to end the event.
