FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Augusta University men’s golf team finished in 12th place on Tuesday at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club. The Jaguars were led by sophomore Laken Hinton who placed seventh overall.
AU’s third tournament of the season featured Arizona State, California, Fresno State, Hawai’i, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, St. Mary’s, and UC Davis. The 15-team field played 36 holes in a shotgun format on Monday and wrapped the event with tee times Tuesday on the par-71, 6,734-yard course.
Pepperdine dominated on the West Coast course and won the team title at 52-under-par. California came in second (-41), San Jose State third (-26), Arizona State fourth (-25), and Santa Clara rounded out the top-five teams 15-under-par.
After round one, Augusta was 13th at 11-over-par and improved and finished 12th led by Hinton. Hinton shot 73, 65, and 67 on the week. His round-two 65 (-6) is the lowest round of his collegiate career and finished him tied for seventh individually.
Freshman Alex van Wyk made the second start of his career and took 43rd (+2) after he posted a career-best 67 in the final round. Sophomore Alex Shead ended 10-over-par to take a T69, while junior Gustav Andersson took a T72 (+11), and freshman Viktor Lindgren 76th (+15) despite Lindgren shooting 2-under in round two.
The Jaguars play at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational Oct. 21-23 at Isleworth Country Club in Bradenton, Fla.
