ATLANTA, GA – On September 18, 2017, the 3rd annual Atlanta Celebrates the TOUR Championship event took place tonight at the College Football Hall of Fame. The event brought together the Atlanta business community along with residents to kick-off TOUR Championship week, now in its 16th consecutive year in Atlanta.
The evening featured a performance by hometown favorite, Ludacris. The community celebration honored the PGA TOUR’s top 30 players and included appearances by Georgia Tech alum Matt Kuchar, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, Daniel Berger, Pat Perez and Brian Harman. V103 morning show host Ryan Cameron served as emcee for the evening.
The celebration is hosted by Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), Atlanta Sports Council, Atlanta Business Chronicle, 680 the Fan and the PGA TOUR Superstore and was presented with the support of Southern Company and Coca-Cola. The FedExCup, TOUR Championship and Payne Stewart Award trophies were on display.
“It ends where it all began. The 2017 TOUR Championship will mark the 31st playing of the event and the 11th since the PGA TOUR launched the FedExCup season-long points race, all of which have culminated at East Lake Golf Club, home to legend Bobby Jones,” Tom Clark said. “This year’s TOUR Championship will embrace many the food, culture and the traditions that make the Atlanta community so special. That starts on Monday night of tournament week as Atlanta businesses have partnered to put together a true kickoff celebration with a collection of the game’s best players being treated to a performance by one of Atlanta’s icons in Ludacris. I can’t think of a better way to start tournament week.”
The TOUR Championship is the culminating event of the PGA TOUR playoffs and features the top 30 golfers as they compete for the FedExCup. During the program, the top 30 golfers were honored and guests rocked out to Atlanta’s own Ludacris, who performed his popular favorites and was joined onstage by Lil Fate. Also spotted at the event were local Atlanta sports celebrities including Falcons players Josh Harris, Matt Bryant, Brooks Read and Austin Hooper as well as Hawks players Kent Bazemore, Mike Muscala, Dewayne Dedmon and Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer, among others.
“Atlanta excels at hosting and celebrating the world’s most important sports championships,” said William Pate, president and CEO, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This kickoff event for TOUR Championship week gives residents and visitors unparalleled access to the greatest golfers in the world as we prepare to crown the FedExCup winner.”
The TOUR Championship, as well as the sport of golf, have played an integral part in developing the sports landscape. Atlanta has been the permanent home to the TOUR Championship since 2002 and is proud to host the event through 2020. In addition, Atlanta-based companies Southern Company and Coca-Cola serve as Proud Partners of the tournament.
“Southern Company is a proud host of the Atlanta Celebrates the TOUR Championship celebration,” said Chris Womack, Southern Company Executive Vice President & President of External Affairs. “Southern Company supports events that showcase the communities where we serve.
