On a day that saw scores soar due to rain and windy conditions, Georgia State shot the fifth lowest round of the day, a 7-over 295, to improve to eighth place at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. The Panthers finished the tournament 21-over and just eight strokes shy of another top five finish.
Junior Tyler Gruca and sophomore Davin White led the Panthers, each finishing in the top 25 for the second straight weekend. White’s final round included three birdies and three bogeys as he finished the 54-hole even at 2-over par. He finished in a tie for 18th place, his sixth top 25 finish in eight tournaments this year. Gruca scored his third straight top 25 finish, also making three birdies on Sunday to finish tied for 21st at 3-over.
“Given the conditions today, I thought we played pretty well,” commented head coach Joe Inman. “I think we would have finished right where we would have liked if not for that nine-hole stretch on Friday. Hopefully we can use that as a learning tool and head to Mississippi in two weeks and get a great finish heading into the conference tournament.”
Freshman Jonathan Grey tied for 42nd place, junior Grant Cagle tied for 58th, and sophomore Damon Stephenson rounded out the Panthers line-up with a 85th finish.
Georgia State will return to the course for its final regular season event April 8-9 at the Old Waverly Championships hosted by Mississippi State in West Point, Miss.
