JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — At the Scarlet Course this weekend, the Oglethorpe women’s golf team posted the 54-hole program record with a final score of 908. Elizabeth Powell played a key role in this success as one of this weekend’s top three players, and the Petrels as a team landed third overall for their highest finish of the 2024-25 season.
The record-setting performance came thanks partly to a pair of near 18-hole records, as the Stormy Petrels were two strokes off the single-round record Saturday and one stroke off the record Sunday.
Powell (75-72-71) finished third in the field, just four strokes away from the runner-up. She posted her best round on Sunday, ending the tournament’s action with a birdie and a bogey-free stretch from hole 5 to hole 18.
Sophia Morettini (78-78-72) in ninth, Abrianna Carstens (84-72-75) in 13th, Katie Sulko (82-75-76) in 15th, and Lexi Sinutko (84-76-83) in 28th rounded out the scoring for the Stormy Petrels.
Morettini, one of this weekend’s top 10 players, finished the tournament strong on Sunday with four birdies.
Carstens soared her highest midway through the tournament on Saturday by clinching three birdies and no bogeys across 11 holes. During that same round, Sulko made her great contribution to Oglethorpe’s success with four birdies.
Oglethorpe finished third with rounds of 319-295-294.
