ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia women’s golf team will compete in its third tournament in as many weekends, traveling to California for the San Diego State Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
Georgia will play 36 continuous holes on Monday followed by the tournament’s final 18 holes on Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament will tee off with an 11 a.m. ET shotgun on both days of action.
“We have had a tremendous week of intense practice leading into this event, and we’ve also been working on our belief and confidence,” head coach Erika Brennan said. “These girls are talented, and now it’s time to go out and execute. We will continue to focus on the things within our control, and the team is capable and ready to take on the challenge.”
Georgia is set to compete alongside 11 other teams in San Diego and will be the lone representative of the Southeastern Conference at the tournament. Other teams competing in San Diego include No. 1 Stanford, BYU, Colorado, Denver, Fresno State, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Diego State, UNLV, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin.
The Bulldogs competed in their first team tournament of the spring on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, travelling to Guadalajara, Mexico, for the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club. Georgia posted a team score of 917 to finish 10th with graduate student Chantal El Chaib leading the Bulldogs individually in a tie for 27th place (+9). El Chaib and sophomore Celine Brovold Sanne each posted an even-par round in the tournament while El Chaib and senior Kate Song both counted all three of their rounds in Mexico.
The Georgia lineup for the San Diego State Classic will consist of four familiar faces and one newcomer to the team lineup. El Chaib will lead the Bulldogs off in the first spot, followed by sophomore Morgan Smith in the second slot. Song will occupy the third position for Georgia while Brovold Sanne tees off fourth in the lineup. Junior Vilde Nystrøm, a mid-year transfer from North Carolina, will take the fifth and final spot for the Bulldogs this week as she competes in Georgia’s team lineup for the first time.
Georgia is set to compete at SDSU for the third-consecutive season, recording top-five finishes in each of the past two years.
