RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Augusta University women’s golf team wrapped the first event of the 2017 season on Tuesday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Jaguars finished in 12th place at 432-over par in the 15-team field
Furman led the event for two days, but NC State overtook the lead in the final round and won by one stroke at 13-over par. Furman and Kent State tied for second (+14), TCU carded fourth (+19), Georgia fifth (+20), Baylor sixth (+23), Texas Tech seventh (+29), Arkansas eighth (+31), Michigan ninth (+32), Iowa State 10th (+36), host Purdue 11th (+40), Augusta and Vanderbilt tied for 12th (+41), Maryland 14th (+47), and LSU 15th (+48).
There was a five-way tie for first place. Maria Vesga (Baylor), Naomi Ko (NC State), Haylee Harford (Furman), Amu Lee (Baylor), and Panitta Yusabai (Maryland) all finished one under par.
In her first collegiate tournament, Augusta freshman Charlotte Alran led the team and tied for 30thoverall (+9). Alran shot a round-three 75 (+3) on Tuesday with four birdies.
Senior Jessica Haigwood took a tie for 47th (+12), freshman Linda Lundqvist a tie for 51st (+14), senior Eunice Yi a tie for 56th (+15), and senior Josefine Nyqvist a tie for 62nd (+16). Augusta combined for 34 birdies across 54 holes, while Yi carded an eagle Tuesday on the sixth hole.
