SAINT LEO, FL. – Valdosta State shot a final round 288 to finish 10th at the Saint Leo Invitational held at the par 72, 7,137 yard Lake Jovita Country Club Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014.
The Blazers’ round of even par was the fifth-best score of the day. VSU was two-over for the tournament with a two-over 578 for 36 holes.
USC-Aiken claimed the team title as it shot a final round 286 for a 14-under 562 for the event. North Alabama, which shot a final round 293, and Lynn (292) tied for second at 566 while Barry (285) was fourth at 568. Nova Southeastern (285) and Columbus State (293) tied for fifth at 569 while host Saint Leo (290) followed at 571. Georgia College carded the low round of the day with a 284 and finished eighth at 575 while Florida Southern, which shot a 294 on Tuesday, bested the Blazers by a stroke.
West Florida followed VSU at 579 after a final round 291 while Georgia Southwestern (299) and Florida Tech (297) tied for 12th at 585. Armstrong Atlantic (291) was 14th at 587 and Lincoln Memorial (301) was two more shots behind while Tampa (310) finished 16th at 603 and Eckerd rounded out the field at 607 after also shooting a 310 on Tuesday.
Chris Rodgers led Valdosta State as he shot a final round 71 to tie for 13th with a three-under 141 while John Fordham was at even par and tied for 27th after shooting a 73. Wheaton Hall was one stroke back and tied for 37th with a final round 72 while Jake Harpe also shot even par in the final round and tied for 54th at 148. Mitch Lomis tied for 90th with a 159 after shooting nine-over in the final round.
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, September 29, 2014 when it begins play in the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational in Columbus, GA.
