TUNICA, M.S. – Valdosta State shot a final round 292 to finish tied for fifth at the Gulf South Conference Golf Championship at the par 72, 7,204 yard Tunica National Golf Course Tuesday (April 21st, 2015).
The Blazers finished the tournament at 24 strokes over par at 888. Lee, which is in its second year of transitioning to NCAA Division II and not eligible to win the championship, finished first in the event as it shot a three-under 285 in the final round and was two-over at 866 for the tournament. West Florida earned the conference championship as it was four-under on Tuesday and 12-over in the tournament at 876. North Alabama followed at 882 as it shot a final round 287 while host Delta State was fourth at 886 after a 291Tuesday. West Georgia tallied a final round 297 to match VSU for fifth.
Christian Brothers was a spot behind at 61-over as it shot a 308 in the final round and finished at 925 while West Alabama was ten strokes back after a 307. Shorter was ninth at 957 after a 324 and Union tallied a 317 for a 971 while Mississippi College, who is also not eligible for the championship as it transitions to the NCAA Division II ranks, rounded out the field at 977 with a 323 in the final round.
Chris Rogers shot a 73 in the final round and finished seventh at 220 while John Fordham tied for ninth at 222 after a 76. Michael Nutter was another stroke back and tied for 12th after shooting even par in the final round while Jake Harpe had a 73 to tie for 17th at 225. Davis Roche shot a final round 74 to tie for 30th at 229.
Valdosta State now awaits word on whether or not it will advance to the NCAA South Regional.
