MIAMI SHORES, F.L. – Valdosta State shot a final round 296 to finish ninth at the Buccaneer Invitational at the par 71, 6,733 yard Normandy Shores Golf Club Tuesday.
The Blazers finished the three-round tournament at 894, or 42 over par. Lynn, which shot a final round 273, won the event at 846 while Nova Southeastern was second at 859 after a final round 282. Eastern Florida State finished third at 867 while host Barry was fourth at 868. Central Missouri was nine more strokes behind and in fifth while Johnson & Wales was sixth at 881. Florida Tech tallied an 887 for seventh and St. Thomas Aquinas bested VSU by a stroke for eighth. Midwestern State followed the Blazers at 895 for 10th.
Newberry was 11th at 898 and Saint Leo followed at 901 while Central Oklahoma was 13th at 907. Tampa was one more stroke back and Wilmington finished 15th at 914 while Palm Beach Atlantic (938) and Eckerd (964) rounded out the field.
Jake Harpe shot a final round 73 and led Valdosta State at 222 to tie for 27th while Chris Rogers tied for 32nd at 10-over after a final round 75. John Fordham was two more strokes back and tied for 40th after a final round 74 while Michael Nutter also shot a final round 74 and tied for 50th at 227. Davis Roche shot a final round 78 to tie for 78th at 239..
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, April 20th, 2015, when it opens play in the Gulf South Conference Championship in Tunica, M.S.
